Rare "I've Lost My Little Willie" Teapot - (Sold)

"I've Lost My Little Willie" An exceedingly scarce teapot modelled by Roger Michell for Lustre Pottery, contemporary with and in the same style as Lustre Pottery's early Walking Ware pieces (pre- Carlton Ware Walking Ware period).It was made in homage to Donald McGill after his PostCard of the same name (see Walking Ware A Collectors Guide by Julia Michell p.78 where this actual example is illustrated. and p.79 - copies now available - see "Walking Ware Book" link to the left of the pictures above).
Julia Michell tells us that the pot was renamed "Has Anyone Seen My Little Willie" and we have also seen one other scarce example with "I Can't See My Little Willie" written across the front and "Homage to Donald McGill" around the rim of the lid.
Aside from one prototype we had in which "Little Willie" is facing sideways (see Edward Bramah's Novelty Teapots 500 Years of Art and Design 1992 p.123 illus.286),we believe that less than 50 examples of this teapot were made by Lustre Pottery in the early 1970s - and none since.
Condition is excellent with one tiny chip to the inner rim of the lid (not visible when lid is on the pot).
Bears the Lustre Pottery backstamp to the base of the feet.
