Paragon Peek-a-Boo Teaplate designed by Chloe Preston (Sold)

Stock No. 314

An extremely rare Paragon porcelain teaplate from the Peek-a-Boo Series, designed by Chloe Preston around 1918 - 1919, and illustrated with a little girl dressed as a Red Cross nurse with three little boys dressed as soldiers in a hot air balloon. Entitled "MAKING OBSERVATIONS" and also marked with the printed signature "CHLOE PRESTON"
This teaplate is from the same series as a Baby's Bowl illustrated in Gifts For Good Children vol. 2 by Maureen Batkin, page 120 and entitled "Red Cross Sisters".
This was designed at the end of the first World War, and young boys would typically play at being soldiers and girls as nurses - emulating the majority of their elders who had largely been involved in the War for the preceeding years.
Marked to the base with the Star mark and PARAGON CHINA ENGLAND Peek-a-Boo Series.
The outline of the design is transfer printed and then hand painted in enamels as is all the other Paragon childrens china from this period. Condition is excellent with no damage or restoration and little or no wear.
