1920's/1930's Shelley Baby's Bowl by Mabel Lucie Attwell - Sold

Stock No. 329

A baby's bowl (reads "BABY'S PLATE" on the side edge) designed by Mabel Lucie Attwell and produced by Shelley in either the later 1920s or early 1930s. A little boy is depicted as the pilot of an aeroplane carrying fairy folk "Boo-Boos" who are parachuting from the plane. The legend reads " I TOOK SOME FAIRIES IN MY PLANE, SOME WANTED TO GO DOWN AGAIN, THEY HAD A DIFFERENT KIND OF RIDE, WITH PARACHUTES ALL OPEN WIDE"
This is arguably one of the very best of Mabel Lucie Attwell's illustrations to be found on ceramics from the pre-war Shelley range. Condition is good with slight wear.
Marked to reverse with the pre-war green Shelley backstamp (earlier than 1939) and "COPYRIGHT DESIGN".
