Tippoo Tiger Gravy Boat, Lid & Stand by Roger Michell - (Sold)

Here is a magnificent gravy boat, lid and stand designed by Roger Michell in the mid 1970s formed as a tiger attacking a man.
Individually hand decorated by Danka Napiorkowska and produced as a small limited edition.
Roger Michell tells us (in one of the archive pages on his website) that only 51 examples out of the limited edition of 60 were (successfully) made. This example is one of those and numbered "55". The story behind the piece is handwritten on the base of the plate underglaze along with the limitation notes as follows:
"TIPPOO'S TIGER IS A MEMENTO OF THE DEMISE OF A YOUNG MAN CALLED MUNRO IN 1792; THE DEATH IN 1799 OF TIPPOO SULTAN, THE "TIGER OF MYSORE", AND A REMINDER OF THE MAN-TIGER-ORGAN" TAKEN FROM THE TIPPOO'S PALACE AT SERINGAPATAM AND NOW RESTING IN THE VICTORIA AND ALBERT MUSEUM, LONDON.

Condition is excellent.
