Paragon Tinker Tailor Series Mug by Louis Wain c. 1918 - Sold

An extremely scarce Paragon porcelain child's mug, hand painted in enamels, from the Tinker Tailor series introduced in 1918 and designed by Louis Wain.
This mug is decorated with an illustration of a smiling cat in a wooden washing tub rowing on a choppy sea, and with the legend above "Out for a Sail", also marked below with the signature of Louis Wain.
Condition is excellent, with little or no wear and with no damage or restoration.
Marked to base with the Paragon Star mark and "PARAGON CHINA ENGLAND Tinker Tailor Series" and the hand painted pattern number 6069 (also used for other designs in this range) in black and with a green dot (the decorator's mark).

(Note: This extremely rare design is not found in Gifts for Good Children by Maureen Batkin Part 2. pgs.7, 8, 14, 119 & 120). In fact, this is the first time in 30 years we have come across this particular Louis Wain design on a piece of Paragon china!
