1920s Paragon Beatrice Mallet milk jug and sugar basin (Sold)

Stock No. 398

A 1920s milk jug and sugar basin designed by Beatrice Mallet for Paragon China, both featuring charming illustrations (amongst others) of two young lads playing cricket and with the legend "Tom's and Harry's fondest dream To be in their school cricket team".
These pieces belong to a 'sub-series' of illustrations that Beatrice Mallet designed and were used on Paragon china in the 1920s featuring children at various sporting activities - see also item 340 on this website - a teapot from this same 'sub series' bearing an illustration of a young girl playing tennis - which would match these 2 pieces excepting the trim is purple rather than orange.
The sugar basin bears another illustration of a boy and girl walking along the sea shore carrying a fishing rod, net and jam jar containing some tiny fishes - and bearing the legend "Fishermen two, Bobbie and Sue, Fishes for tea, Straight from the sea".The milk jug bears another illustration of two young children in their pyjamas with a candle on their way to bed (no legend). These are very rare pieces (and nearly 100 years old) that are not easily found these days.
Condition :The milk jug is in perfect condition aside from some slightly faded colours. The sugar bowl looks perfect with less faded colours - but it has had a hairline professionally restored which is not visible to the naked eye.
